KUCHING, Aug 27: A fatal accident along Jalan Sultan Tengah claimed the life of a 23-year-old motorcyclist last night (Aug 26).

In a media statement, Kuching district police chief Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the accident occurred at around 10.45pm when the motorcyclist, a local man, lost control of his vehicle and veered into the opposite lane, crashing into the car.

ā€œHe (the motorcyclist) sustained severe injuries and was confirmed dead by paramedics from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at 11.20pm.

ā€œMeanwhile, the driver of the car was unharmed,ā€ he said.

He added that the case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, namely imprisonment for five to 10 years with a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000 if convicted.

Mohd Farhan also urged anyone with information pertaining to the accident to come forward by contacting IPD Kuching traffic investigating officer Insp Russell Stetson Junner at 013-8578601 or 082-259900 (BSPTD) Kuching or at the nearest police station.
