KUCHING, Dec 7: A 23-year-old man, Daniel Jumau, is feared to have drowned after going missing at a pond near workers’ quarters in Simpang RH Kiroh Bali, Tatau, today.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), friends of Daniel said he had gone to bathe at the pond in the afternoon but did not return.

Only his towel and slippers were found at the site, raising fears that he may have fallen into the water. The pond is estimated to be around five metres deep.

Bomba personnel from Tatau Fire Station, led by operation commander PBK I Boniface Empaya, were alerted at 4.18pm and conducted an initial search of the pond. Four personnel were deployed using a Hilux vehicle, with police assisting at the scene.

Despite efforts, Daniel could not be located, and the operation was suspended at 6pm. Search efforts are expected to resume tomorrow. – DayakDaily
