KUCHING, Nov 3: Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) rescued 23 cats and five turtles from a challenging situation at Jalan Semaba today.
In a Facebook post today, the non-governmental organisation (NGO) said these animals were retrieved from the hands of a woman who had been caring for them.
“We thanked her for saving the cats but the cages were too small and that she had too many to look after. We reassured the lady that the cats would be better cared for with us.
“After much haggling, she agreed to let us take all 23 cats, acknowledging the need for proper care. One kitten was immediately taken to the vet for severe dehydration and flu.
“We also negotiated to take five Malayan black turtles, promising to release them safely,” the NGO said.
SSPCA also said that five cats are still looking for loving foster homes.
