MIRI, April 14: A 21-year-old female pillion rider died following an accident last night along Jalan Bakam, Simpang Sungai Rait.

Miri Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu today confirmed that the police were informed about the fatal crash at 7.30pm.

“The accident involving three vehicles—a Yamaha SS motorcycle operated by a 19-year-old man, alongside it was a Mitsubishi Triton, driven by a 37-year-old man, and a Perodua Viva, steered by a 50-year-old man,” he said in a statement.

According to the police’s preliminary investigations, the motorcycle, believed to be heading from Bintulu to Miri, had initially collided with the rear of the Mitsubishi pickup.

“This initial impact caused the motorcycle to veer into the opposite lane, where it was struck once more, this time by a Perodua Viva vehicle,” Alexson said.

The impact from the two hits caused severe damage to the motorcycle. The pillion rider succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Miri Hospital at around 8.30pm.

Meanwhile, the other two drivers escaped without any injuries.
