21yo mechanic dies from injuries after two-vehicle crash in Miri

MIRI, Aug 7: A 21-year-old mechanic lost his life after suffering critical injuries in a two-vehicle collision involving a Toyota Hilux and a Proton Saga at the traffic light junction of Jalan Pujut 7 yesterday (Aug 6).

Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim, who was seated in the front passenger seat of the Saga, succumbed to his injuries at 12.30pm while receiving treatment at Miri Hospital’s emergency unit.

He said the police received a report regarding the accident at around 5.30am.

“Preliminary investigation found that the Hilux, driven by a 39-year-old local man, had collided into the left side of the Saga which was travelling from Permyjaya towards Pujut 7.

“The impact left the victim critically injured, while the 43-year-old driver of the Saga sustained serious injuries to his left arm. The Hilux driver escaped unhurt,” he said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.

Mohd Farhan also urged road users to always exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent accidents. — DayakDaily
