SIBU, May 23: It will be a bleak Gawai for an odd job worker after he was cheated of RM14,398 in an online job scam.
Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the 20-year-old victim was checking his Telegram app when he saw an advertisement that offered part-time work.
“As he was interested, he clicked ‘like’ on a YouTube video and very soon after he was communicating with the suspect,” he said.
The victim was given six tasks to perform which promised commissions.
“To be eligible for the jobs, he was asked to make six payments totalling RM14,398 from May 15 to 20,”he said.
He realized that he had been conned when he did not receive the commission.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. — DayakDaily
