20yo farmer gets 24 months’ jail, caning for robbing woman

KUCHING, Jan 9: A local 20-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 24 months in prison and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court today for his involvement in a robbery incident targeting a 23-year-old woman.

The incident took place on Feb 23, 2023, at approximately 9.15pm in front of a business premises on Jalan Stephen Yong.


The farmer pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 392 of the Penal Code for committing an offence on the said premises.

According to the charges, he robbed the victim, taking her identification card, ATM card, education savings card, student card, and RM300 in cash.

Judge Iris Awen Jon ordered the accused to begin serving his prison sentence immediately after considering the social report from the Department of Social Welfare regarding the young offender.

According to the case details, a police report from the victim stated that an unknown man approached her, exposing himself while demanding money. In a state of panic, the accused suddenly grabbed her handbag containing essential items and fled the scene.

The police apprehended the accused on Feb 26, 2023, around 2.40pm at a residence in Kampung Kuap, Jalan Penrissen.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian, while the accused did not have legal representation.

In a separate incident on May 25, 2023, three Magistrates’ Courts separately ordered the accused to attend the Henry Gurney School until the age of 21 for six charges involving molestation, committing gross indecency, and house trespassing.

He faces four charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code for committing gross indecency by exposing himself to four different women aged 20 to 35 in separate incidents on Dec 2022, March 24, 2023, and April 1, 2023.

Additionally, one charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code was filed for violating the dignity of a foreign woman on the stairs of a building in MJC Batu Kawa around 7.30pm on April 8, 2023. — DayakDaily
