KUCHING, Dec 29: As we ring in 2026, Sarawak is expected to experience heavy rain and strong winds, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) forecasting that the monsoon trough will affect the region from Jan 1 to 5, 2026.
In an announcement released this afternoon, MET Malaysia said the weather phenomenon is expected to bring continuous heavy rain across Sarawak, along with strong winds and rough seas in the South China Sea.
The department also noted, in a separate statement, that on New Year’s Eve (Dec 31, 2025), rain is expected in several parts of Malaysia, including Sarawak.
In Sarawak, rain is predicted to continue until the evening of Jan 1, 2026. Areas including Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri, and Limbang are expected to continue experiencing rain on the night of Jan 1.
