KUCHING, Oct 13: Since the introduction of the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (Statos), visitors from Singapore have grown steadily, recording the highest number of arrivals from Singapore between January and August 2023, which is a growth of over 20 per cent as compared to a similar period in 2019.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Rahman Karim Rahman attributed it to the good partnership with its local counterparts.

“Our partner agents have portrayed the fighting spirit at the core of Sarawakians, ‘agi idup agi glean’, which means ‘we will fight to the end’.

“As we recover from the aftermath of Covid-19, we want to celebrate the dedication and hard work of our partners who have helped us to promote Sarawak in Singapore,” said Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) Dato Sri Abdul Rahman Karim Rahman in a statement from Statos today.

According to the statement, Abdul Karim made these comments during the Sarawak Warrior Night held at the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore on Oct 11, which over 80 Singapore travel agencies attended.

The event is to show gratitude to the travel agents who have been instrumental in advancing Sarawak’s tourism narrative and to acknowledge their exceptional accomplishments and partnership.

Meanwhile, Statos chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani pointed out that without the cooperation and support of the MTCP, Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), Business Events Sarawak (BES), Association of Sarawak Inbound Agencies and Sarawak Tourism Federation (STF), and industry partners such as hotels and airlines, the event on the night would not have been possible.

“The collaborative efforts of both destinations have been vital in creating strategic partnerships that will benefit the tourism industry and travellers alike. It is through events like these that we can truly gain more insight into improving our business operations and marketing efforts,” he added.

The event included a presentation of the Sarawak Warrior Award 2023 to the top three travel agencies for their exceptional performance and dedication to promoting Sarawak as a premier travel destination.

These agencies had the highest contribution to Sarawak’s destination marketing efforts in Singapore, where they received a trophy, certificate of achievement, and a contribution prize.

The contribution prizes are to enhance their future offerings to clients travelling to Sarawak. Its recipients are:

  • Gold: EU Holidays Pte Ltd, represented by Wong Yew Hoong, with a prize of RM9,000
  • Silver: Amazing Borneo Travel & Events Pte Ltd, represented by Lynn Tiang, with a prize of RM6,000
  • Bronze: Singatour Pte Ltd, represented by Mr William Gan, with a prize of RM3,000
