2 Penan girls die in road crash in Lapok, Baram

Family members of the accident victims could not hold back their tears at the scene.

MIRI, Oct 16: A 10-year-old Penan girl and her 3-year-old niece died when they were knocked down by a 4×4 vehicle while crossing a road at Lapok in Baram this afternoon.

The victims were believed to be from Long Lutin, and the tragedy reportedly happened near a primary school in Lapok.

According to sources, the 10-year-old died on the spot, while the toddler passed away hours later in a clinic.

Marudi police chief DSP Gabriel Risut, when contacted, confirmed police had received a report of the accident and had rushed to the scene. He, however, could not divulge more information. — DayakDaily
