KUCHING, May 18: Only two new clusters were detected in Sarawak today, with both located in Betong District with a total of 42 Covid-19 positive cases so far.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily report said the two clusters involved a village in Hulu Spaoh and a longhouse in Jelang, Spak respectively.
The Hulu Spaoh Cluster has a total of 20 positive cases in which 19 new cases were detected today.
“A total of 48 individuals linked to this cluster have been screened whereby 20 people were tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, two tested negative and 26 are still awaiting laboratory results,” the Committee said.
For the Jelang Cluster, a total of 13 new cases were reported today, bringing the cumulative number of positive cases linked to this cluster to 22.
Initially, a total of 141 individuals have been screened after being identified as close contacts. Of these, 22 people were tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case while 119 tested negative.
All positive cases from both clusters were referred to Betong Hospital and admitted to Betong Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.
SDMC also announced the end of Sungai Selitut Cluster in Tatau district after reporting no new local infections in the past 28 days.
At present, there are 84 active clusters in the State with 12 of them recording an increase of 77 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
