2 men plead not guilty to armed gang robbery charges in separate Sessions Court hearings

KUCHING, Oct 15: A civil servant and a self-employed man have pleaded not guilty to three charges of armed gang robbery in separate hearings at the Sessions Court today.

The two accused, 27-year-old Mohd Hissyalezwan Abdul Zamri, a civil servant, and 25-year-old Muhammad Nasrie Razali, who is self-employed, entered their pleas before three different judges: Judge Iris Awen Jon, Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman, and Judge Saiful Bahari Adzmi.

Both individuals face three charges under Section 395 of the Penal Code, read in conjunction with Section 397, which covers armed gang robbery.

If convicted, the men could face up to 20 years in prison and may also be subject to whipping.

The first charge relates to an incident on Sept 26, 2024, at approximately 5.10am at a coffee shop in Moyan Square, Jalan Batu Kawa.

The duo is accused of robbing two Indonesian nationals while armed with a machete.

They allegedly made off with RM325.80 in cash, 44 packets of cigarettes, 12 1.5-liter water bottles, an Epay machine, and a smartphone.

The second charge pertains to a separate robbery on Sept 28, 2024, at about 5.30am.

The accused allegedly targeted another Indonesian national at a coffee shop along Lorong 1B, Jalan Penrissen, Batu 10, stealing RM800 in cash and a smartphone.

The final charge involves another incident that took place on Sept 30, 2024, around 2.15am at a coffee shop on Jalan Batu Kitang.

During this robbery, they allegedly stole RM100 in cash and a smartphone from two Indonesian victims.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Ruvinasini Pandian and Cynthia Emmelda Jerry are handling the case.

Both accused appeared without legal representation.

Judge Iris Awen Jon scheduled the next case management session for November 19, 2024, while Judges Afidah Abdul Rahman and Saiful Bahari Adzmi set their case management dates for Nov 14, with further documents and legal representation expected to be arranged. — DayakDaily
