2 men get 8 years’ jail, whipping for armed gang robbery

KUCHING, Dec 5: Two men were each sentenced to eight years’ jail and five strokes of the rotan when they pleaded guilty to a gang robbery with a deadly weapon charge in the Sessions Court here yesterday.

Judge Marutin Pagan ordered that their imprisonment take effect from the date of their arrest, which is Nov 27, 2018.

Accused Nasrol Mohd Sahad, 34, and Abdul Aliff Abdul Malik, 28, were charged under Section 395 of the Penal Code, to be read together with Section 397, for committing gang robbery with a meat-cutting knife on Nov 26, 2018, at 9.58am in Jalan Sungai Maong Tengah.


They robbed a female worker of a shop and carted away RM800 cash, a Samsung handphone and a box of cigarettes.

According to the facts of the case, the victim, while on duty, was approached by both accused. Suddenly, Nasrol whipped out a meat-cutting knife that he had brought along, pointed it at the victim, and demanded that the victim take out all the cash in the cash register. He also snatched the victim’s handphone. Meanwhile, Abdul Aliff took away a box of cigarettes from the counter, and all the happenings were recorded by a CCTV installed inside the premises.

Both accused were not represented, while Azahari Yusof prosecuted. — DayakDaily
