MIRI, July 18: Two Curtin University Malaysia researchers have received prestigious gold awards for their research projects on environmental sustainability at two separate international innovation events recently.
Dr Lee Man Djun, a lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, received a gold medal award at the International Virtual Expo of Innovation Product and System Design 2023 (INVIDE2023) for his project which aims to improve the strength and sustainability of paper.
Meanwhile, Dr Tan Inn Shi, a lecturer in the Department of Chemical and Energy Engineering, has received the gold award for her project, ‘Innovative Production of 3G-LLA: A Novel Building Blocks for Eco-friendly Bioplastic’ at the International Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition (iCompEx 2023).
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Dr Tan expressed her happiness and gratitude on the award for her research to produce 3G-LLA.
“This efficient and environmentally friendly approach to produce 3G-LLA is a promising step towards a more sustainable future and demonstrates the potential of green chemistry.
“I am grateful to Curtin University Malaysia for its support and efforts to foster an atmosphere of research excellence,” she said.
At the same time, Curtin University Malaysia’s Pro Vice Chancellor President and chief executive officer Prof Simon Leunig said the university is very proud of the achievements of their researchers at the leading innovation events.
