2 arrested in separate drug trafficking raids in Miri

MIRI, June 29: In a series of operations carried out by the police, two individuals were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking in separate raids conducted on Wednesday and Thursday.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that a team from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Miri Sarawak IPD arrested a 34-year-old local man on June 26 at approximately 4.40pm during their first raid.

The arrest took place at a house in Taman Tunku Miri. During the raid, officers discovered a gray tin container with a transparent plastic packet containing white crystal powder suspected to be ketamine, weighing 19.87 grammes.

The estimated value of the seized drugs is RM3,974.

This case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a separate operation, ACP Alexson confirmed that on June 27, a 43-year-old foreign national was apprehended by the same division.

The raid took place at a house in Bandar Baru Permyjaya Miri, where officers seized 64 transparent plastic packets containing crystal chunks suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing 24.09 grammes.

The estimated value of these drugs is RM2,900.

This case is also being investigated under Section 39A(1) and Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

The penalties for these offences include a minimum imprisonment of five years or life imprisonment.

Both suspects are currently in custody as the police continue their investigation. — DayakDaily
