KUCHING, May 20: A 19-year-old man has been ordered to serve time at the Henry Gurney School until the age of 21 after pleading guilty to raping a teenage girl whom he befriended through social media.
The sentence was handed down by Sessions Court Judge Musli Ab Hamid today after the teenager admitted to committing the offence under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping.
The court also ordered the teen to undergo police supervision and counselling for two years following his release.
According to case details, the incident occurred on the night of September 6, 2024, in Kampung Jaya Bakti, Jalan Matang. The accused had visited the victim’s home on the pretext of delivering cookies.
Upon arrival, he sat with the girl outside the house and proceeded to kiss and hug her. Her uncle, who was inside watching television, called her into the house.
However, shortly afterwards, he noticed that both the accused and the girl had disappeared from the front of the house.
He later discovered that the teen had taken the girl to the back of the house, where the sexual assault occurred, which was non-consensual.
Both returned to their respective homes after the incident. The following day, the victim confided in her sister and subsequently lodged a police report.
The accused was arrested on September 8, 2024, at a house in Jalan Sungai Tengah, Matang.
Investigations revealed that the victim was 15 years old at the time of the offence, while the accused was 18.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Umi Syukriah Harun prosecuted the case, while lawyer Federick Sabung represented the accused. — DayakDaily
