19yo foreign woman among three arrested for drug abuse in Kuching raids

KUCHING, Feb 22: A 19-year-old foreign woman was among three individuals arrested for drug-related offences in three separate raids carried out by police around Kuching on Feb 21.

Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Anak Chabu said the arrests were made by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters and Kuching District Police Headquarters following continuous intelligence gathering.

In the first raid at about 12.45pm, police arrested a 21-year-old local man at a house along Jalan Nanas Barat.

“A search led to the discovery of 40 pills believed to be Erimin 5 weighing 12.28 grams and 10 blue transparent plastic packets containing suspected ketamine weighing 5.40 grams, with an estimated market value of RM1,880,” Alexson said in a statement today.

Urine screening tests on the suspect returned positive for ketamine and benzodiazepine (Benzo), and checks showed that he had no prior criminal record.

The second raid took place at about 1.30pm in the Jalan Astana area, Petra Jaya, where police detained a 28-year-old local man. Inspectors found nine transparent plastic packets of various sizes containing crystal substances believed to be methamphetamine weighing 5.50 grams, valued at RM605.

The suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and was found to have four previous criminal records.

In the third raid at around 2.05pm, police arrested a 19-year-old foreign woman at a house along Jalan Green. One transparent plastic packet containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 5.70 grams, with an estimated value of RM627, was seized.

Urine screening revealed that she tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, and checks showed that she had no previous criminal record.

All three cases are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of imprisonment of not less than two years and not more than five years, and whipping of not less than three strokes and not more than nine strokes upon conviction.

The suspects have been remanded for four days from Feb 23 to Feb 26 to assist investigations under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. — DayakDaily
