198,900 Pfizer booster doses arrived from Belgium

A batch of 198,900 doses of Pfizer vaccines from Belgium arrived in Kuching on Oct 14, 2021 for the roll out of booster shots.

KUCHING, Oct 15: Another batch of 198,900 doses of Pfizer vaccines have arrived at Kuching International Airport from Belgium yesterday (Oct 14).

Local Government and Housing Minister Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the vaccines are for the scaling up of booster doses for the Priority 1 group, comprising of frontliners and high risk vulnerable persons.

“The eligible recipients must have also completed their full vaccination more than six months ago,” he said in a Facebook post last night.

Dr Sim also said that Sarawak is still waiting eagerly for the medical experts from National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority (NPRA) of Ministry of Health to make a decision on the booster shots, whether there will be mixing of vaccines or otherwise.

Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccines have been approved as booster shots but the MOH has yet to decide on administering them for those with Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines.  These groups are approaching the 6-month post-vaccination timeline too.

In another separate Facebook post, Dr Sim also hopes that all the other public and private healthcare facilities will immediately start rolling out booster dose for their staff who are eligible once the vaccination programme for the Priority 1 group is completed in these two months period. – DayakDaily
