BAU, Nov 27: Some 192 landowners from the Singai area received compensation for their land worth RM9.7 million.

Two projects affected their land; upgrading Kpg Tanjung Poting/Tanjung Senibong/Tanjung Bowang Road, and Kpg Apar Road with a replaced Bailey bridge over Sg Adis.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan officiated at the programme to present the cheques to the recipients at REDEEMS Centre, Singai.

Awang Tengah said the compensation was also given to landowners whose land were still without titles.

“With the compensation paid today, it is clear that the State government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) recognises NCR land.

“The government will continue to recognise NCR land with proof and never had the intention to take away the people’s land,” he stressed.

He pointed out that the government was serious in surveying NCR land scattered all over the State.

Awang Tengah also called on the people to continue giving GPS the mandate to administer the State.

He said GPS should be the choice to protect the interests and welfare of the people.

“Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for the past three years has brought tremendous development to the State.

“Not only that, he has brought in about RM7 billion in additional revenue for the State through taxes from oil and gas, among others, to transform the State.

“It is necessary for the people to give GPS a fresh mandate in the upcoming election,” he stressed, adding that the State should be governed by local-based parties.
