KUCHING, April 14: A total of 19 ASEAN meetings are scheduled to take place in Kuching this year, as part of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN.
According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim made the decision to ensure that ASEAN meetings also involve participation from outside the capital, said Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato Sri Amran Mohamed Zin.
“In Sarawak alone, 19 ASEAN meetings are scheduled to be held in Kuching. So far, we have already conducted seven.
“Next week, there will be 12 more meetings, including those at the ministerial level, with senior officials and working committees across various ASEAN mechanisms,” he said.
Amran shared this following a courtesy call on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia here today.
The meeting also discussed continued cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Sarawak government, particularly in matters related to diplomatic affairs and official overseas visits.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its network of embassies abroad, remains fully committed to facilitating official visits by the Sarawak government, including high-level visits by His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak and the Premier of Sarawak,” he said.
Also present during the courtesy visit were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Regional Office, Fenny Nuli. — DayakDaily
