KUCHING, Aug 15: Eighteen Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects worth RM5 million are set to be implemented in the Batu Kawah constituency in 2024.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, said most of the projects will focus on improving the drainage systems in the constituency.
“Drainage work is complex, requiring proper planning and high technical standards, thus making it impossible to resolve all issues in a short period of time
“Upgrading the drainage system has been a key focus since I was elected as the Batu Kawah assemblyman, and due to the numerous housing areas requiring improvement, the projects will be carried out in phases,” he said in a press statement today.
Dr Sim revealed these projects include the drainage upgrading for low-cost housing at Lorong RPR 28A6 and 28A4 Batu Kawa which will be upgraded at a cost of RM376,679, awarded through open tender to Q & Q Services, to replace the existing earthen drains with reinforced concrete drains and widen the roads to improve parking for residents.
He also said that this year’s RTP allocation will cover several other drainage system upgrades, such as drainage reconstruction work at the backlanes of Lorong RPR 24/24A1A/18/26/24 Batu Kawa and Lorong Stephen Yong 2K1, as well as embankment protection works at Desa Wira 17A, and the installation of a new drainage system for Kampung Stapok Melayu.
According to him, there are also building upgrades for Dewan Serbaguna R. Piang Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Masjid Darus Sakinah in Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Surau Darul Salam in Kampung Sinar Budi Lama, futsal field and facilities at Dewan Perpaduan RPR Phase 1 Batu Kawa, Balai Raya Desa Wira Lot Lorong 20 and Lorong 5i, including improvement and upgrading works for SMK Batu Kawa.
Additionally, he said, the existing recreational park at Green Acres Estate, Lorong 2 Batu Kawa, will be upgraded. Other infrastructure improvements include water pipeline upgrades at Lorong 1 Jalan Sejijak and Jalan Kiung Kit, along with the installation of new streetlights and the upgrading of existing streetlights at Batu Kawa Phase 4.
“The RTP is a strategic initiative by the Sarawak government to enhance and improve local infrastructure, ensuring that all residents, including those in Batu Kawa, benefit from better facilities and services,” he added. — DayakDaily
