KUCHING, Oct 24: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Angkatan Zaman Mansang (Azam) Sarawak is organising a one-day workshop called Randau Digital Sarawak themed “Ke Arah Masyarakat Digital” (Towards a Digital Community) in Miri on Oct 25.
Azam in a press statement said that this workshop is one of the ways to ensure that Sarawakian communities are well-equipped to participate in the fast-transforming global economy brought on by advancements in digital and communication technologies.
“Sarawak’s digital economy roadmap will be vital to ensuring a holistic digital ecosystem powered by our grassroots communities. With increased awareness and knowledge, local stakeholders will be ‘digital ready’ for future trends and developments in the digital economy and the state will see more active participants from the local communities,” said Azam.
It also revealed that about 170 participants comprising members of the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), local entrepreneurs and youth representatives from Miri Division are expected to attend this one-day workshop which will help to familiarise and educate grassroots communities on development strategies and trends under the digital economy agenda.
For the JKKKs, the workshop is to generate awareness primarily among members who are among the state’s development frontliners, on the importance and benefits of the digital economy.
Secondly, the workshop seeks to equip JKKKs with the relevant knowledge and networking that can enable them to mobilise their respective communities to initiate activities that promote and nurture the digital economy.
The sessions will be conducted by industry players, experts, as well as government representatives from Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Sarawak (MTACYS), Department of Agriculture Sarawak (DOA), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Pustaka Negeri Sarawak.
AZAM further disclosed that among the key sectors to be discussed at the workshop are capacity-building on digital economy, e-tourism, technopreneurship and digital agriculture.
Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin is expected to hold a dialogue with the participants on the theme “Peranan Pemimpin dalam Menggerak Masyarakat Akar Umbi ke arah Ekonomi Digital” (Roles of Leaders in Moving Grassroots Society Towards a Digital Economy).
“The dialogue will hopefully provide an opportunity for the people to voice out and discuss their concerns about digital economy initiatives and development.”
Azam said that the programme is the second in a series of workshops for JKKKs, in a programme by SMA and Azam , to promote digital inclusiveness. The first workshop was held last month in Limbang Division.
