The project was approved on Oct 31, 2018, and the land acquisition process for it began in 2023.

It entails upgrading the existing 5.6 kilometre former log road, which ends at Rumah Lugum Jenging.

Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin was present to officiate the cheque handover ceremony at the Julau District Office yesterday (May 27).

During a press conference, he stated that the development of utilities in rural areas is critical to the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The development of this utility has numerous positive effects on society and the economy.

“For example, providing access to clean water, electricity, road infrastructure, and reliable telecommunications services can promote long-term economic growth and the well-being of rural communities.

“Overall, the country’s development policy should prioritise planned and organised utility development, particularly in rural areas,” Rolland Duat was quoted as saying.

The Meluan assemblyman also congratulated the Land and Survey Department of Sarikei Division for carrying out their duties in accordance with the Sarawak government’s goal of bringing development to the people. — DayakDaily
