KUCHING, Mar 22: A 15-year-old boy was found dead this evening after he was believed to have drowned while bathing in Sungai Bangkit Katibas in Song today.
The victim, identified as Sylvester Jarbis Mesin had reportedly gone to the river with two friends at about 12.30pm when the incident occurred.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call regarding the incident at 1.15pm, prompting a team from the Song fire station to be dispatched to Rumah Sebastian Thamby, Nanga Bangkit.
A total of six personnel were deployed using one fire engine to respond to the case.
The victim was later found by villagers at about 3.15pm, approximately 100 metres from the last known location where he was seen.
He was subsequently taken to the Nanga Bangkit Clinic by villagers.
Firefighters arrived at the location at 4.20pm after travelling about 65km, including continuing the journey by boat due to the absence of road access.
Upon arrival, personnel confirmed that the victim had already been found and no search and rescue operation was carried out. — DayakDaily
