ASAJAYA, April 13: Over 1,500 people participated in the launching of Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2019 at Asajaya Sports Complex today.
Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah performed the opening ceremony.
In his speech, he announced that similar events would be held at 40 districts throughout the state and the programme was expected to run until the end of next year as part of the ministry’s community engagement initiatives, especially with the young generations.
“The programme provides a good avenue for local leaders to meet youths in their respective constituencies in order to foster better understanding and enhance ties with the young generations,” he said.
Among the activities featured during the event were townhall sessions, singing competitions, cultural shows, sales of products, exhibitions booths and extreme sports demonstration such as rock climbing.
At the townhall session, youths had opportunities to interact with their local leaders during the questions and answers session that include discussions on matters of common interests.
Another attraction was performances by popular local artistes who belted hit songs at concerts.
Also present during the function were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, Daro assemblyman Sapiee Ahmad, Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo and Samarahan Resident Ibrahim Lumpu. — DayakDaily
