150 bowlers take part in Curtin Malaysia Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Cup

Miri, Nov 11: More than 150 bowlers participated in the Curtin Malaysia Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Cup Bowling Competition at Megalanes East Bowling Centre Miri recently.

This annual event was organised by the Curtin Bowling Club of Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia). It was formerly known as Curtin Open Bowling Competition, and this year’s competition was its 7th edition.

Its main objective is to foster friendly ties between the students, staff and alumni of the university with the community at large. It is also to promote bowling and healthy lifestyles.


In the Team category, the ‘Young Sifu’ team of Mohd Helmi Adham, Muhammad Ashraf Mansor, Mohd Khairul Farhan Bukhari and Mohd Zamrom Mohd Nor won both first and second placings (note: it was played over 2 sessions, and they won both sessions). Third place went to ‘Mouseball’, comprising Salawaty Sahar, Nazrin Nasaruddin, Jerry Joe and Joharie Azrul.

The winning teams walked away with cash prizes, trophies and hampers, while the fourth to 10th placed ones received trophies and bowling vouchers.

In the Individual Male category, Mohd Khairul Farhan Bukhari emerged winner, followed by Muhammad Hazeeq Suif in second place, while Joharie Azrul grabbed the third spot.

The top prize in the Individual Female category went to Zurina Shahri, with the first runner-up spot going to Suriyati Abdul Rani and the second runner-spot position going to Hayati Mohamad.

All the winners in the individual categories received trophies and cash prizes.

Meanwhile, Adri Shahri was crowned ‘Best Curtin Male Player’, while Siti Sabrena Safari was ‘Best Curtin Female Player’. Both went home with trophies and vouchers.

The ‘Best Curtin Team’ title went to ‘Wait’, which comprised Adri Shahri, Abdur Rahim, Syafiq Shebli and Siti Sabrena Safari.

The ‘Best Curtin Alumni Player’ title was won by Pui Yit Hong, while the ‘Best Curtin Staff Player’ was won by Jameson Malang. They both received trophies.

The prizes were presented by Curtin Bowling Club advisor Jameson Malang and the club’s Presidential Department staff of Gerald Prawira, Hossameldin Radwan and Chang Hao Xuan.

The competition was sponsored by the management of Curtin Malaysia, its Student Services, Sports and Recreation Services and Career and Alumni Services Department as well as Curtin Malaysia Student Council, Pujut 7 Thai Massage, Chickilicious, Jun Rong, Dan Casket and Funeral Services, McDonald’s, One Borneo Enterprise and Megalanes East Bowling Centre Miri. — DayakDaily
