15 from 3 families left homeless after fire gutted house at Kpg Jariah, Sibu

KUCHING, April 5: A total of 15 individuals from three families managed to escape unharmed after a fire destroyed their rented house at Kampung Jariah in Sibu, this afternoon.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operation centre said after receiving the emergency call regarding the incident from the Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (MERS 999) at 2.47pm, a team of nine firefighters from Sungai Merah fire station led by PBK II Shahrulnizam was deployed to the location, together with six firefighters from Sibu fire station led by PBK II Yusuf Tar.

“Operation commander arriving at the location reported that the incident involved a unit of rented house which was completely destroyed in the fire. However, the three families consisting of 15 individuals who lived in the house managed to escape to safety unharmed,” it said in a statement.

The statement noted firefighters were also having some difficulties while trying to extinguish the flames due to the construction works being conducted in the area.

“Firefighters then utilised a 400-foot water flow with two nozzles to douse the fire engulfing the house before successfully putting the flames out completely. The operation ended at 4.10pm,” the statement added.

Also present at the location were Senior Bomba officers namely PgKB I Jangan Muling (KZ04), PKPgB Ali (KOK on duty),  PKPgB Jackson (Investigation), PPgB Jerry (Investigation), PPgB Hj Ismuni (Investigation), TPgB II Abdul Mutalif Jaafar (Sibu fire Station chief) and PKPgB Suna Kaha(Sg Merah fire station chief). — DayakDaily
