142 people affected by floods in Bintulu seeking shelter at 2 relief centres

BINTULU, Dec 1: Some 142 flood victims are still taking shelter at two relief centres here as several areas in Bintulu are still inundated by water from heavy rain.

As of 4pm today, Bintulu Indoor Stadium and Bintulu Civic Centre are still accommodating 50 families.


State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) secretariat Major Ismail Mahedin in a statement today said all flood victims were from three affected places, namely squatters areas in Sungai Sebatang and Sungai Plan; and Kampung Avenue.

“The other 138 victims from 43 families have returned to their respective homes.

Our team from Civil Defense Force (APM) together with other related agencies are still at the locations to monitor and inspect the flooded areas.

“All flood evacuees in the two evacuation centres have also been asked to strictly following the standard operating procedure (SOP) as set by SDMC,” Ismail said.

On Nov 29, a total of 364 people from 118 families have been evacuated to the evacuation centres due to flash floods. — DayakDaily
