KUCHING, July 19: Some 135 longhouse residents were left homeless when fire razed their 18-door longhouse near to Sekolah Sg Arip in Tatau, Bintulu on Saturday night.
However no casualty was reported in the fire at Rh Lanting.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was contacted at 11.29 pm when Rh Lanting caught fire.
According to a statement from the State Bomba Operation Centre, the longhouse was fully razed by the fire when the Bomba Tatau team reached the scene and immediately doused the fire.
With assistance from Bomba Selanggau firefighters, water from the nearby river which was located opposite the scene through a bridge was used to put out the fire.
Bomba Selanggau returned to their station at 3.46 am after the situation was under control and a forensic team is now investigating the cause of the fire and losses incurred.
The operation ended at 8 am and the firefighters returned to their Tatau station. -Dayak Daily
