KOTA SAMARAHAN, Sept 18: A 12-year-old boy was found dead this morning with bite marks on his body and chest, believed to have been attacked by a crocodile while fishing in a river near Kampung Empila.
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kota Samarahan received an emergency call at 7.53am and immediately dispatched a team of eight firefighters with assets to the scene.
A search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched, focusing on surface water searches.
At 9.50am, the boy’s body was discovered by rescuers about 10 metres from the location where he was last seen.
According to a witness, who was also fishing in the river, the boy had been casting a net from a boat approximately 10 metres away.
The witness recounted hearing the victim scream, and upon looking towards the direction of the sound, realised the boy had disappeared from sight. He quickly went to the spot where the boy vanished and began an initial search before alerting emergency services.
The body had been retrieved and handed over to the police for further action. — DayakDaily
