KUCHING, Sept 17: Some 1,200 runners participated in the Malaysia Day Community Fun Run 2023 held at Farley Mall at 6th Mile today.
According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, such an event is an ideal way to engage with people from all walks of life on the importance of health and interacting with one another.
“As a city council, we like to have community engagement, and this time, we have the Farley Foundation and Bomba (Fire and Rescue Department) come together to support this event,” said Wee, representing Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, after at officiating the event this morning.
During the event, the mayor stressed the importance of keeping the community spirit alive and ensuring no dividing factor between the people.
“It is not easy, but we need to try our best. Whether we do it through events or awareness campaigns, everyone has a role to play,” he said.
At the same time, he also called on authorities to work together.
He shared that as a council, it tends to receive attention and complaints first from the public, but it always works together with relevant authorities to resolve matters.
“Authorities are not only to educate the public, but they must have good networking and work together to solve issues,” said Wee. — DayakDaily
