1,200 flood victims taking shelter at 18 temporary evacuation centres in 7 districts

KUCHING, Dec 24: A total of 18 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) are still open in Kuching, Samarahan, Gedong, Sebuyau, Simunjan, Serian, and Betong to provide shelter for about 1,200 flood victims from 305 families as of 12 noon today.

According to an infographic by the Civil Defence Force (APM), four PPS opened in Kuching after floods hit Kampung Sungai Bedaun, Kampung Beradek, Kampung Segedup Lot, and Kampung Tengah Sungai following continuous heavy rain.

A total of 347 people are still taking shelter at SK Beradek, Kampung Bedaun Hall (86), Kamaruddin Kpg Segedup Hall Lot (9) and SRB Chung Hua Sejijak (10).


Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and Social Welfare Department director Noriah Ahmad visited the PPS at SK Beradek today to check on the flood evacuees.

In Samarahan, 46 families were affected, with 77 people evacuated to Kota Samarahan Civic Centre, SK Kampung Baru (96), Kampung Melayu Kota Samarahan Hall (6), and SK Endap Kota Samarahan (10).

As for Gedong, 28 flood victims from seven families are housed at Lubok Buntin community hall, while Sebuyau saw 163 victims from 43 families taking shelter at Masjid Kampung Seruyuk and in Simunjan, 33 victims from 12 families are at SMK Simunjan No. 1.

In Serian, five PPS were opened since yesterday (Dec 23) at Kampung Rimba Padi multipurpose hall, sheltering 75 victims from 24 families, Balai Raya Betong Kanowit (25 people from six families), Kampung Kerumboi Hall (17 people from four families), Kampung Lintang Baru Hall (48 people from 15 families) and Kampung Koran Mawang Hall (57 people from seven families.

Two PPS opened in Betong at SMK Kalaka Roban Hall, housing 112 people from 32 families and Milennia Debak Hall, with 15 people from six families. — DayakDaily
