120 to compete in 3rd Malaysia Orang Ulu Golf tourney on Sept 8

Tournament organising committee led by advisor Kilah Deng paid a courtesy call on Baru (4th right) recently, to brief the minister on the tournament programme, while extending an invitation to him to officiate at the event.

KUCHING, Sept 3: Some 120 golfers are expected to compete in the 3rd Malaysia Orang Ulu Golf tournament to be held at Sarawak Golf Club, here, this Sunday.

Works Minister Baru Bian, scheduled to open the tournament, is also slated to compete along with several state dignitaries and corporate figures from the Orang Ulu community.

In addition, 30 golfers from other communities will be invited to the tournament in line with its aspiration to promote unity and respect among the various race groups in Sarawak through sports, said organising chairman Asan Odau.


“The objective of the tournament is to promote a healthy lifestyle and unity among the Orang Ulu community, as well as other communities in Sarawak, through sports.

“We also want to use this event to promote interest in golf among our Orang Ulu community and to showcase our unique culture through this beautiful sport,” he said in a statement.

All eligible Orang Ulu golfers will vie for the men’s and ladies’ challenge trophies in this tournament. — DayakDaily
