SIBU, Oct 23: The rape of a 12-year-old girl here came to light after the victim’s aunt found out that the girl is pregnant.
Her niece has been complaining about nausea, weakness, and lack of appetite, and had also missed her menstrual period for two months. Sensing something was not right, the aunt decided to take her to a clinic for a medical check up yesterday evening.
Medical officers later confirmed that the girl is about two months’ pregnant.
According to Sibu police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, initial investigations revealed that the girl had been living with her mother and the latter’s live-in boyfriend.
“The victim, who is a school drop out, is the youngest of three siblings. She was living with her mother and the suspect at his workers’ quarters before moving to her aunt’s house two weeks ago.
“The victim later disclosed that she was raped by her mother’s boyfriend at least five times between May and July this year at his house,” Stanley revealed in a statement.
The suspect, 32, works as a mechanic in Sibu. He was arrested last night by police shortly after a police report over the matter was lodged.
Police are investigating the case under Section 376 of Penal Code for rape. — DayakDaily
