KUCHING, March 10: International educational exchanges and collaboration between Sarawak and China will serve as a bridge to strengthen ties, promote common development and nurture high quality talents that would bring benefits to both countries.

Highlighting this, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang expressed gratitude to Haikou University of Economics for offering full scholarships to 12 outstanding Sarawakian students to pursue their higher education at the university located in Hainan, China.

Lo has recently accompanied 19 Sarawakian students to report and enroll in Haikou University of Economics to start their academic year following China’s move to end its Covid travel restrictions.

“MPP entered into the education collaboration with Haikou University of Economics in 2019 where the university provided 12 full scholarships, giving opportunities to high achievers from Sarawak to study in the university.

“But due to the Covid-19 pandemic, students were unable to report to the university physically and classes were done through distance learning or through online. Now that they are able to return to campus, I believe they are excited and look forward to their school life here,” he said in a statement today.

Lo emphasised that MPP placed great importance on the education collaboration and hopes to foster further collaboration with China in various areas of interest in the future.

He was accompanied by MPP deputy secretary Ir Daniel Goh and councillors Amy Tnay, Jong Tiang Kiong and Yeo Eng Kuang in the visit to the university.
