KUCHING, July 5: Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada is glad his constituency will have twelve new telecommunication towers by 2025.
Dr Sinang shared that these telecommunication towers are under the Sarawak Multimedia Authority and Jendela programme.
He revealed that three telecommunications towers are already operational, in the vicinity of Kampung Jenan, Kampung Roban and Kampung Lobang Batu, in Serian, and the remaining nine towers would follow.
“It is not a ‘naked tower’ per se, as I had seen in the contract given to Digi, Celcom and Maxis telco companies where the contract stated it is going to be twelve ‘functional’ towers.
“I have seen the letter of the project. It is commencing, and it is an ongoing project,” he told DayakDaily after handing over Minor Rural Project cheques to various recipients at his service centre in Tebakang, Serian, today.
He said telecom towers are economic enablers in rural settings and building them are in line with Sarawak’s digital economy and the e-commerce agenda to achieve Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
“The contractors have also studied strategic areas where the towers are to be built so that they will provide the maximum coverage.
“Now, the land used is on a rental basis, but later they probably will need to acquire the land. That could be a stumbling block because not everyone is willing to let go of their land unless under compulsory acquisition by the government under Section 47 or 48 of the Sarawak Land code,” he said. — DayakDaily
