11yo Sarawakian twins to represent Malaysia in ‘Talent Olympics’ in California

KUCHING, June 25: Eleven-year-old Sarawakian twins Aleysha and Ryan Zachary Shareef flew to the United States today to represent Malaysia at the 27th World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Long Beach, California.

The two enthusiastic singers could hardly contain their excitement when met by reporters before departing for Kuala Lumpur at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) earlier.

They said their only goal was to win, and when they do, they would like to proudly inform all their audience that they are representatives from Sarawak, Malaysia.

Their proud mother, Shirley Hasmani Datuk Eddie, expressed her gratitude to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Sarawak government for sponsoring the twins’ trip.

According to a news report by TVS, Aleysha will be performing a solo in three vocal genres, namely Rock & Balad, Pop, and Broadway, in addition to two duets with Ryan. Meanwhile, Ryan would sing a solo in the Pop and Open genres.

The twins are the protégés of Malaysian singer Dewi Liana Seriestha, who won the gold medal for classical opera, three silver medals for contemporary, world music, and variety category (vocal), a special accolade under Industry Award and a medal for classical champion of WCOPA 2014.

For the record, WCOPA is an international competition, often cited as the Official ‘Talent Olympics’, for aspiring entertainers and successfully attracted participation from more than 60 countries. — DayakDaily
