11 yo disabled girl sole new Covid-19 fatality as Sarawak logs 71 new cases

KUCHING, Dec 7: An eleven-year-old disabled girl was the sole Covid-19 fatality reported today as Sarawak reported 71 new infections.

According to a Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) report, the girl, from Samarahan succumbed to Covid-19 on Dec 3.

This pushed the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths in Sarawak to 1,597.

The 71 new cases has increased the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the State to 251,356.

Two out of the 71 cases were categorised as critical (Category 3, 4 or 5) while the balance of 69 cases were in Categories 1 and 2.

Breaking it down, one intubated patient was in Category 5, one patient requiring breathing support was in Category 4 and there were no patients in Category 3.

There were 48 patients with mild symptoms in Category 2 and 21 asymptomatic patients in Category 1.

By district, Miri reported the most cases in Sarawak, registering 22 cases followed by Kuching with 19 and Sibu with 10.

Districts which reported between one and ten cases were Bintulu (7), Serian (3), Limbang (2), Lawas (1), Kapit (1), Bau (1), Lundu (1), Julau (1), Selangau (1), Beluru (1) and Sebauh (1).

Areas which reported zero new Covid-19 cases were Samarahan, Sarikei, Asajaya, Subis, Tatau, Bukit Mabong, Kabong, Simunjan, Mukah, Kanowit, Sri Aman, Betong, Pusa, Tanjung Manis, Matu, Daro, Dalat, Belaga, Telang Usan, Marudi, Saratok, Song, Tebedu, Pakan, Meradong and Lubok Antu. — DayakDaily
