KUCHING, Aug 10: With schools Kuching, Samarahan and Padawan districts reopening in one week’s time on Aug 17, 11 schools in Pending will undergo disinfection starting today until next Sunday (Aug 16).

According to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth Central secretary-general Milton Foo, the disinfection and cleaning tasks are performed by a private company called BB Construction Company under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

The work is pro bono to help these primary and secondary schools including SJK (C) Sungai Apong which was disinfected today get ready for reopening next week when students resume their studies after a long break due to the long-drawn Covid-19 pandemic.

“I would like to extend my greatest appreciation to BB Construction to do this on pro bono basis for all primary and secondary schools in Pending before the schools’ opening on Aug 17,” Foo asserted earlier today.

A total of 213 primary and secondary schools, with 87 in Kuching district, 99 in Padawan and 27 in Samarahan was involved in the second postponement of school reopening from Aug 3 to Aug 17.

This announcement was made by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas on July 29 due to the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases during that period of time. — DayakDaily
