KUCHING, Jan 17: Eleven suspects, including a 29-year-old housewife, were arrested when the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) raided three places in Kota Samarahan within hours of each other on Tuesday (Jan 15) and seized drugs with an estimated street value of RM151,850.
State NCID chief Supt Sahar Abdul Latif said the raids were launched on the same day to prevent the suspects from alerting each other of the police operation.
In the first bust, NCID’s Team A arrested two unemployed men aged 23 and 24 in a house at Kampung Semera Hilir, Sadong Jaya, at around 6.10am.
Police found 39 short plastic straws containing drugs, suspected to be syabu, with a nett weight of about 5.71g and an estimated street value of RM550.
Urine tests showed the suspects, both locals, were positive for amphetamine/methamphetamine. The duo is being investigated under Sections 39A and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Section 39A carries a jail sentence of no less than two years but not more than five years, and no less than three strokes of the cane but no more than nine strokes, upon conviction.
The second and largest bust was made around 12.30pm near a house at Jalan Stakan here by Team B. Two male suspects aged 39 and 58 were nabbed.
Following a search, police found a bag of what appeared to be Guanyinwang instant tea. But it contained 1,003g of drugs, suspected to be syabu, with a street value of about RM150,450.
Urine tests showed both suspects testing positive for methamphetamine.
The two suspects are being investigated under Sections 39B and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Section 39B carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
