10yo Sibu girl with no known illnesses dies of Covid-19, pushes death tally to 1,629

KUCHING, Feb 26: A 10-year-old girl from Sibu is dead because of Covid-19.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) had categorised her as one of the many brought-in-dead (BID) cases as her body was brought to the Sibu Hospital on Feb 17.


Investigations found that she had no known illnesses.

That makes the 1,629th death due to Covid-19 in Sarawak since 2020.

Meanwhile, Sarawak recorded a total of 483 new Covid-19 cases today, with 477 classified as mild and six as serious cases.

There were 246 in Category 1, 231 in Category 2, one in Category 3, two in Category 4, and three in Category 5.

In terms of district, Kuching remained the top registering 173 cases, followed by Miri with 91 cases, Sibu (80), Bintulu (27), Kapit (20), Matu (16), and Mukah (11).

Other districts with new infections were Limbang (9), Sarikei (7), Kanowit (7), Betong (7), Lawas (5), Samarahan (4), Song (4), Tanjung Manis (4), Dalat (4), Daro (3), Serian (3), Subis (3), and Simunjan (2).

Sri Aman, Saratok, and Sebauh each recorded one case.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 258,895.
