107 tuberculosis cases detected in Kuching this week from 1,380 samples

KUCHING, March 25: A total of 107 tuberculosis (TB) cases were detected in Kuching district this week.

In disclosing this, Kuching District Health Officer Dr Eunice Melissa Joseph said so far screening tests for TB have been conducted in four localities, namely in RPR Batu Kawa, Batu Kawa Resettlement Scheme, Kampung Bumbok and Kampung Jawa Semenggo involving 1,380 individuals.

“Cases that are successfully detected through this programme will be given further treatment which in turn will help prevent the spread of TB in the local community,” said Dr Eunice World Tibi Day Kuching Level Celebration held at the Jalan Masjid Health Clinic, today.

She noted that Kuching District Health Department has organised various programmes on the ground to raise awareness, commitment and support from various parties to control and prevent the spread of TB disease.

She said they have also working closely with the Anti Tuberculosis Association Sarawak (Atas) in carrying out TB awareness campaign among the local community.

She also said among the programmes conducted was investigating confirmed cases of tuberculosis, contact tracing, as well as providing treatment and health screening, which will be done at clinics around Kuching. — DayakDaily
