BEKENU, July 2: A centenarian at the ripe old age of 106 has become the oldest Covid-19 vaccine recipient in Bekenu.
The man was able to receive his jab after a medical team arrived at his residence to do so yesterday.
Bekenu assemblywoman Rosey Yunus said the strategy to deploy medical teams on the ground was to implement the Covid-19 Vaccination Outreach Programme in the constituency to facilitate the vaccination of many more residents.
“The programme is very helpful, especially for the residents who are unable to get vaccinated at the vaccination center (PPV) and those who are in rural and remote areas.
“This approach will assist the State government in its mission to achieve herd immunity by August 2021,” she said when making her rounds to inspect the programme in Bekenu yesterday.
She also advised residents who have not yet registered for the Covid-19 vaccines, to send their names to their respective community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) so that they could be inoculated.
Meanwhile, the coordinator for the vaccination centre (PPV) in Bekenu, Dr Monica said two medical teams also performed vaccinations at Bekenu Health Clinic and Tun Haji Openg Health Clinic.
“For the Bekenu Health Clinic team, the medical team has inoculated eight senior citizens and five persons with special needs (OKU).
“For the Tun Haji Openg Health Clinic team, a total of 15 individuals have been vaccinated namely, eight OKUs and seven senior citizens,” she said.
