10,000 turn up for Bintulu MP’s CNY open house

SIBU, Jan 23: About 10,000 people thronged Pulau Li Hua Commercial Centre for Dato Sri Tiong King Sing’s Chinese New Year Open House today.

The multi-racial crowd has gathered there as early as 8am even though the event was only scheduled to start at 9am.

Speaking at the event, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture said though open houses could take place without any restriction, the public must continue to take care of their health.

“We can see that in the last two to three years due to the pandemic, we were unable to have a Chinese New year programme like this one. This year we can only start to have it.bBut I want to take this opportunity to advise the people to look after their health,” said Tiong who is also the Bintulu MP and Dudong assemblyman.

He also extended his new year wishes to the people.

“In the Year of the Rabbit, I pray that people have good luck and a prosperous 2023,” he said.

Among those present were Lanang MPbAlice Lau, Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, Chinese community leader Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau and chairpersons of various Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) branches in Sibu. — DayakDaily
