KOTA SAMARAHAN, Aug 27: The Sarawak government has set aside another RM9 million to help some 10,000 fishermen during landas (flood) season from January to March in 2022.
Minister of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development (MANRED) Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said this batch of ‘Landas Season Relief Aid’ is on top of the previous RM15 million allocated for this year.
“The fund is a special assistance from the State government to assist fishermen who will be laid off by the landas season during those months.
“Some 10,000 fishermen are expected to benefit from the monthly allowance of RM300 each through the aid,” he said after inspecting the ongoing construction work of the Sarawak Farmers’ Organisation (SFO) new headquarters building here today.
On SFO’s new headquarters which is worth RM20 million, Uggah was glad to note that it was 5.57 per cent ahead of schedule in its construction.
Construction on the new headquarters began on Sept 24, 2020 and it is expected to be ready by May 24, 2022.
Among those present at the function were SFO chairman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, MANRED permanent secretary Edwin Abit, and State Agriculture Department director Dr Alvin Chai. — DayakDaily
