A brief send-off ceremony was held at the council’s headquarters, where MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng presented the delegation with a Sarawak flag. Also present were councillors Albert Tay and Judy Kho, who extended their best wishes to the young participants.

“The invitation to participate in the camp was the result of a meaningful diplomatic engagement when a delegation from Xindu District, Chengdu, paid a courtesy call on Wee on April 29.

“During the meeting, Wee expressed interest in having MBKS Child Council members take part in the upcoming study camp and requested that ten seats be allocated to Kuching South.

“The Xindu representatives responded positively and agreed to the request, leading to the formal invitation from the Chengdu authorities with support from the Sichuan Provincial Government,” said the council.

Meanwhile, Wee, in his address to the participants, encouraged them to embrace the opportunity with open minds and hearts.

“This is more than a study trip; it is a platform to foster cross-cultural understanding, build international friendships, and develop your confidence and leadership.

“It aligns closely with our ongoing efforts under the Child-Friendly Cities Initiatives to nurture globally aware and socially responsible youth,” he said.

The study camp will provide participants with immersive learning experiences in the Chinese language, culture, and educational practices, alongside interactions with youth from other cities and countries as part of MBKS’s commitment to cultivating the next generation of leaders through international exposure and community empowerment.

The MBKS Child Council, established as part of the council’s inclusive governance model, continues to be a platform for young voices and aspirations to be heard and supported. — DayakDaily
