KUCHING, Jan 10: A 10-year-old child is among the five new Covid-19 cases detected from close contacts linked to the Pasai Cluster.
Confirming that there were three cases in Sibu and two in Sri Aman, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said in a statement the five patients are among 24 positive cases reported across Sarawak today.
“Cases 1,264, 1,265 and 1,268 are Sarawakian males who have undergone the close contact screening of the Pasai CLuster. These cases are aged from 10 to 52-years-old.
“Three of these cases were swabbed on Jan 7 and 8 in Sibu and were found to be positive on Jan 9. They were asymptomatic and have been admitted into the Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” it elaborated.
The two cases in Sri Aman related to the cluster comprise a couple who had contact with Case 1,175 (index case) on Dec 30.
As for the three new cases linked to the Stutong Cluster, one Import-C case has been detected in Serian, involving a Sarawakian female who had contact with positive Covid-19 cases in Kuching.
She was swabbed at a private hospital in Kuching on Jan 9 after having contact with Cases 1,211 and 1,212 of the cluster.
The remaining two new cases related to the Stutong Cluster were detected in Kuching itself. Investigations showed that Case 1,256 had contact with Case 1,204 while Case 1,260 is a family member of Case 1,183.
The sole new case linked to the Keranji Cluster is a kindergarten teacher who had close contact with Case 1,191. The patient was tested on Jan 8 and the results came back positive on Jan 9.
Meanwhile, the two new cases from the Bah Sayap Cluster in Miri are Sarawakian females who had close contact with Case 1,176. Both of them were asymptomatic and have been admitted into Miri Hospital for further treatment.
All in all, Kuching reported seven new cases (two Import-B and five local transmission cases), Sibu reported five local transmission cases, Miri reported five new cases (three Import-B and two local) and Sri Aman reported two Import-C cases.
Bintulu had one local case, Sebauh had one Import-C case, Samarahan had one Import-B case, Selangau had one local case and Serian also with one Import-C case.
With today’s 24 new Covid-19 cases, the cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 1,275.
SDMC also reported two new recoveries who have been discharged from Sarawak General Hospital and Sibu Hospital respectively while 160 patients are still receiving treatment in hospitals across the state.
“Today, there are 46 new Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases and 16 cases awaiting laboratory test results,” it noted.
There are 643 Persons-Under-Surveillance (PUS) who are registered into various hotels across Sarawak to be quarantined, and a total of 5,148 individuals under quarantine in 48 hotels throughout Sarawak. To date, 49,877 PUS have completed their 14-day quarantine. — DayakDaily
