KUCHING, Nov 22: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) has confirmed the discovery of a whale carcass near Triso bridge earlier today, following a search prompted by a viral video that garnered widespread public attention.
In a statement posted on its social media, SFC reported that preliminary assessments show the carcass is in an advanced state of decomposition and is nearing disintegration.
“The whale is currently trapped on a sandbar and can only be retrieved during high tide.
“It is believed to be an adult 𝑏𝑎𝑙𝑒𝑒𝑛 species, measuring approximately 10 metres in length, with a tail fluke of around 2.8 metres and roughly 50 throat grooves,” SFC stated.
SFC’s Veterinary and Forensics teams, in collaboration with the Museum Department, will collect the bones tomorrow for further analysis. — DayakDaily
