10-member special committee set up to probe firefighter’s death

KUCHING, Nov 13: A 10-member special committee has been set up to ensure thorough and transparent investigations into the death of firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said that the committee will submit its findings and recommendations to the Cabinet within six months as per the Cabinet decision on October 29.

“The Cabinet Memorandum on the establishment of this special committee including terms of reference, membership, and financial implications would be presented for consideration and Cabinet approval in the near future.

“The Legal Affairs Division under the Prime Minister’s Department would be the joint secretariat together with the Home Ministry and Housing and Local Government Ministry for the special committee,” he said in a statement issued today.

The 10-member special committee comprised Wan Junaidi himself, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun.

Former appellate court judge Datuk Kamardin Hashim, Penang Medical College Senior Consultant Forensic Pathologist Datuk Dr Bhupinder Singh, Universiti Malaya Medical (UMM) Faculty Professor and UMM Medical Centre senior consultant histopathologist Prof Dr Looi Lai Meng, criminologist Prof Datuk Dr P. Sundramoorthy, Bukit Aman Forensics (D10) principal assistant director Senior Asst Comm Azari Abd Rahman, and Police School of Investigative and Prosecution Sciences Senior Asst Comm Mohammad Abd Hamid would also be on the committee. — DayakDaily
