KUCHING, Oct 26: One rabies-positive animal case has been recorded this week at RPR Batu 12, Jalan Kuching-Serian in Kuching, following a bite incident involving a pet, said Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.
During his 239th ShallWeeTalk Facebook Live session today, Wee highlighted that rabies cases are decreasing; however, vaccination programmes are still ongoing.
“I believe the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sarawak has implemented an effective programme called ‘Vaksinasi Anti-Rabies Village-to-Village’, where they go into villages to conduct anti-rabies vaccinations,” he said.
The mayor reassured residents that MBKS is actively working with relevant agencies to control and monitor rabies cases through continued vaccination and community outreach programmes.
“Please keep an eye on our Facebook page, where we’ll post updates on vaccination dates and locations across villages and urban areas,” he said.
He urged residents to get their pets vaccinated, licensed, and microchipped to help the council achieve its goal of eradicating rabies from the community.
Wee also clarified that MBKS’s actions focus on humane handling and community safety, not on indiscriminate culling. — DayakDaily
